I have the red clay pots in one of my tanks but I was wondering if the brown ones could work too. I was wondering if they are painted that color or of they are fish safe. I like the look of them better. Thanks!

Ya. It isn't shiny. I just didn't know if the brown color was a dye added to it.

There seems to be differing opinions regarding the use of brown clay pots in aquariums.

Personally I don't use them but some quick research then showed some users reporting their tanks to have a murky tea like colour. I would assume that soaking it over a period of time would resolve this (maybe). Others are suggesting that they only use products that are marked as aquarium safe.

As to what, if any chemicals, are being leached into the aquarium? I would assume that naturally occurring clay that hasn't been glazed would be ok to use.
