Was going to try the purigen in my Aquaclear 70. A couple questions

1) the literature says helps reduce ammonia. Will artificially lowering the ammonia not starve my good bacteria?

2) will a pack of the 100 mlk size be good for the Aquaclear 70? I will have (starting from the bottom) one sponge, one layer of floss, one layer of the purigen and two bio max bags on top.

thanks

Any type of filter media that absorbs ammonia will limit what's available to your bb. What will eventually happen is when the purigen has lost its effectiveness, your ammonia will spike and your cycle will crash. I would another layer media instead (floss, foam, etc) and save some money. :)

The purigen may reduce the ammonia a bit, but it isn't going to suck it all out of the water and starve the bacteria. I use it occasionally to clear tannins out of my water and haven't had any issues.
