I'll be getting a gold nugget pleco in the next week or so for my 50g and I was looking at making caves for it to hide in. It's 2.5 inches from what the store told me and I was wondering if 1.5 x 6 inch PVC pipe would be large enough for it. Would they require caps on one end to make it more cave-like or would I be looking at a stagnant water problem?

Gold Nugget plecos are one of the smaller varieties. I've kept several and never had one grow over four inches. The most important piece of decor to be added to your tank is driftwood. Without it your GNP will starve. I speak from experience. IMO, Malaysian DW is probably the best. This is a pic of one of my favorites.

Yeah, I do have a driftwood piece in the tank. I'm just trying to figure out if this size pvc will be big enough for it to use or if I need to get something bigger.
