I have an allpondsoultions filter ive had it running for about 4 weeks now and looks like it could do with a clean out...sounds silly but how do i do this ???

you can take the filter out and clean everything in the sink or tub with hot water , the filter pad you only want to rub off lightly in a bucket of tank water so you wont kill off your bacteria
