Questions About Mollies

I have a few Molly fry of different sizes. At what size can you determine the sex? One definitely looks female to me at 1" and a couple of the little ones at 1/2" look male.

Also, at what size can they start reproducing? I just don't want my fry to have fry in the fry tank. Although it would be the appropriate place, I'm trying to control the population of livebearers.

You should be able to tell fairly easily at ½" long. I would not trust any molly over 1" to not reproduce.

Thanks for your reply. It's just hard to tell with the smaller fry, because there is almost always a piece of poo sticking out of their rears, covering the fin. I will spend some more time watching them and see if I can tell.

Just keep checking the anal fin (as you seem to have already been doing). The male's gonopodium should be fairly evident!

I watched them intently and I believe we have all females. Thank goodness.
