Hmm not sure that's a hit-or-miss. You coudl try it if you had a big tank (I'd say around 30 gallons) but have a back-up plan.

most likely not sorry just not a good idea

I wouldn't mix anabantids personally. Definitely not an 'on a whim' decision anyway, if you have a separate tank to move the fish to in case of trouble, then go for it, but mixing them sometimes doesn't end well when they get breeding age.

Was at the local Petco yesterday and they had a male betta in tank with about a half a dozen flame Gouramis. One of the Gouramis was not looking well at all, looked kinda beat up and tired. Mentioned to the guy that this was not a good idea. All he said was we "we do it all the time".

Yeah, Petco isn't always the best. Today I saw two Arrow Crabs fighting over a dead Clownfish .
