Would a heavily planted 8 gallon cube tank with a canister filter rated up to 20 gallons be to small for a ram. I'm ready to do tons of water changes if the bioload is to high I just want to know if the ram will get stunted my tank.

What kind of ram and what other inhabitants will be in the tank?

I'd say this is more than enough for something like a german blue ram. They are not very big fish. Might be small for a bolivian ram though.

Personally I wouldn't risk it. You could go with nano species that have the same behavior as Rams. Such as the scarlet badis
