My fish! As far as non-living things go probably deciding to go with PFS. It was really cheap and works really well.

Pool filter sand. I could get 50 pounds for less than ten bucks if I remember correctly plus it's nice and heavy so the filter doesn't suck it up.

Most satisfying would be my livestock. Most useful is a pump I bought for water changes. Sounds weird.. But I have a few tanks really low to the ground which makes siphoning almost useless and impossible.
