I would set it up this way from bottom to top:

Ceramic rings [for big particulate filtration]

If you can I would get a coarse sponge to keep food etc from getting into your biomedia

Then the bio balls
The cotton
And lastly the carbon.

That way you get your major filtration before your biofiltration and finally your polishing the water with the cotton.

And if your ever in need of another canister filter I have had nothing but good things to say about Eheim canisters. They are a little pricier but they are almost stupid proof [minus the directions which suck, but you can find good videos of them on youtube] and in the long run I see it as a "you get what you pay for" kind of deal :]

I finally got around to buying the sunsun 304b filter. In what order do I fill the trays? I have the cotton, bioballs, ceramic rings and carbon. Does the order matter? The filter has 4 trays.
