Have had a 10G tank for almost 3 years, been great. Only 3 small platys and a small pleco ... for the last 2 months I have about a week of crystal clear water then a week of milky cloudiness, then clear, then cloudy etc: Any ideas?

Pikeman,

Cloudy water is usually associated with heterotrophic bacteria. This type of bacteria consumes organics before it breaks down and turns into ammonia. Are you feeding a bit too much? Using pH altering products will also cause these bacterial blooms. It can also be the beginning stage of an algae bloom.

Make sure you're vacuuming the tank with each water change.
