I bought one about a month ago, with a red cap Oranda, and now hes just a normal oranda.

Almost all the black is gone. All his fins and a spot on his nose were black. Looked really cool. Could they have just been feeding him a food with lots of dye to get those colors there?

it's quite normal for black goldfish to turn silver as they age. i don't know if there's anything you can do to stop it, but it has happened to black moores, fantails, you name it. in my experience, the black will recede starting from the belly and go up the fish's sides leaving a narrow stripe on top, then that goes too.

Goldfish are born black/brown and gradually gain color over time. So like zenkatydid said, it's completely normal and a chance you take when buying goldfish, unfortanetly.

Yup. It sucks when people pay through the teeth for Koi with fancy colors and then end up having them lose their colors. It's quite common.
