I haven't seen any black aquarium sand here and I've asked. I did look into the blasting sand but it contains particles that can be too sharp for bottom dwellers like corys. I really don't have the money to buy anything expensive that's why I was thinking pfs or play sand. But I'll only replace the gravel I'm using if its going to look better with the lighter sand I'm just not sure yet.

I've only heard that its too sharp from people who DON'T have it. Everyone who does says their Cory's are fine

My Corys are perfectly fine with it. IMO I think a lot if times fish are tougher than we give them credit for. Gravel might be too hard for Corys. Idk from experience. That's what I've been told. But aquarium sand is sand. The Corys will be fine.

I think I'm going to go with pool filter sand it's something different from my other tank. I was also wanting to know if there is an algae eater I could add to this setup? I know about dwarf ottos but they look similar to my Pygmy corys and I'm wanting something different?

So I have some sad news I came home tonight and went to turn of my sweet betta Dracula's light off and he had passed away :'( I don't know why exactly it wasn't a water quality issue but his belly had Turned all white and looked bloated. I feel so terrible I wish I had noticed that something was wrong, I just honestly didn't think he looked bloated or sick until he had passed and the belly went white. RIP my little fin baby and I wish I could have done more for you.

Thank you, it's always sad loosing a fin baby. I'm not going to be getting another betta for awhile. I've decided to move my guppy fry from my 41g to this tank with the 3 Pygmy corys. I have about 14 of them and they are getting big and my tank is overstocked with them all as well as the adults guppys and all the other fish so this should fix that quite a bit. Do you think they would all be ok in the 17.5g? Ill also be adding another 3 pygmys when I can afford to.

I think they will be fine in the 17.5 gallon it will give you more room in your other tank. It's horrible losing a fish you care for you get so attached to them.

Ok thank you ill do a 50% water change tomorrow and move them over, hopefully there not too mad at me for downgrading their home. Yes it really is the poor little babies

When I can sex them all I'm going to separate the girls and boys no interbreeding shall be going on in my tanks ;) whatever I have the majority of with stay in the 17.5 and the other sex will go in the 41g.
