I'd figure out what species it is first and go from there. As mentioned, the most common native catfish species get too large for most aquariums. As far as care goes, just a basic setup works fine for most natives, they aren't too demanding. I wouldn't bother with a heater.
If you end up looking for a smaller option of native catfish, look into madtoms, they are just like their big cousins but stay small enough to be aquarium friendly.
