I have small catfish (4-5 inches)in my river. and i wanna keep one in my tank ( its a big tank and i know it will be okay). I need a list of things i need to buy.thanks

Exactly what size? You will need 150 gallons approximately for one catfish
API master freshwater
Live food
Mud or sand substrate
Very large tankmates if any- ex an Oscar fully grown
Some plants not very many
No driftwood or rocks
A long tank
Filtration rated for 300 gallons
A large heater
A large air pump
The little catfish won't stay little long

I'd figure out what species it is first and go from there. As mentioned, the most common native catfish species get too large for most aquariums. As far as care goes, just a basic setup works fine for most natives, they aren't too demanding. I wouldn't bother with a heater.

If you end up looking for a smaller option of native catfish, look into madtoms, they are just like their big cousins but stay small enough to be aquarium friendly.
