I have this container of river stones that you usually use with potted plants or various other decorative purposes. Any clue if these are tank safe? They are polished but I can't tell if they have any coating on them of any kind.

Fill a cup with some water and fill another cup with water from the same source and put the rock in one of them. Let it sit over night and test the ph of each. Correct me if I am wrong.

When you buy Mexican Beach Stones from Home Depot, they look somewhat like unpolished versions of these. They have no effect on my tank.

Generally speaking, any polished stone should be tank-safe. The polishing process would basically disintegrate softer stone, which is primarily the type that cause issues with water chemistry.
