Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good day and weekend!

I think I want to buy an RO Filter in order to do water changes for my tanks. And have a few questions.

Are they worth the expense?

What are the benefits?

Whats a good kind/company? Can they an effective one be nought cheaply?

Are they portable?

Stupid question: Can you drink from them as well?

Ive been trying to figure it out and would like to hear what owners think about them.

:thanks:

You can drink the water, but why do you need one? They are used when you need a supply of soft water, but for most fish aren't necessary. They also waste a lot of water as not all the water that goes in comes out as RO water. A large amount is used to keep the membrane flushed.

Trying to make a biotope that has soft water. Green neon tetras need soft water apparantly. Do they change water pH?

So they arent portable?

What type of biotope are you trying to do?

I you can boil peat moss for tannins and lower ph.

Trying not to have too much a tea color. A few pieces of unboiled driftwood would help. Orinoco river biotope. There are many options for this one. I am going to try to keep the pH around 6.5-6.9 area.
