So i want to possibly do a cichlid tank but having a problem finding holy rock...i have live rock and lava rock is that ok or is it to rough for cichlids

If it is really live rock I wouldn't use it. I've heard of people using lava rock though. I don't have any personal experience with either though, sorry.

You could try finding regular limestone. That's what Texas holey rock is.

I take it you want to start an african tank. If the reason you want holy rock is to buffer the water, dont waste your time. It doesnt dissolve fast enough to buffer your PWC's. You can always just throw a hunk of limestone in there.

I want it because of all the holes that are in it i think staking flat rock or round rock doesnt look as good and i have pieses of live rock and lava with holes in it for them to hide i just dont know if the roughness will scar up the fish or not
