Can you take any rock from outside and add it to your tank? What are the steps to making the rock safe to add to your tank thanks everyone for the help

I like picking my own rocks.. I've grabbed some, did a vinegar test, quick boil and scrub... In the tank they go.. Careful with hokey rocks, nasties can lurk within..

I took a whole bunch of slate from a golf course would that be a problem?

I think slate it actually just fine! A lot of preppie use it the anchor driftwood; I'd say clean it up nice nice and sink it!!

Scrub it with some hot water and vinegar in the tub..

Don't Boil Rocks

Most will be fine but some won't. Ever seen a steam engine blow? acid test clean disinfect if worried rinse repeatedly. place in tank.
