bought some driftwood from my lsf was pretty expensive £50 ive had it in water for a week now leeching some parts of it seem rotten i can pick bits away with my fingers. will it be okay or is it useless

Take a steel brush or a rasp and remove the soft parts. Are you sure the wood is intended for aquarium use? Shops do sell wood for reptile cages some of which is not suitable for under water use.

Did the DW have bark on it? Those ... I'm finding from my LFS's are for terrariums and not suitable for aquariums as the bark does tend to rot and break off.
