Based on this page it's an SAE. It has the two whiskers only that I can see like the page notes, and I don't see a gold band on the top associated with Flying Foxes. There is also no coloration on the fins. Can anyone else identify it for me? I have some pictures.

I second the SAE.

It has all the major features: 1 pair of barbels, ragged stripe extending to tail, transparent fins otherwise.

The only thing missing is the renticulated scales above the stripe. However, my SAE's don't have the renticualted look as frys, and I can only make that out when they get to be 2" long. So I suspect you would see that as the fish grow.

Except the black stripe doesn't go far enough into the tail. Perhaps as this is a juvie, it will as it ages. My False SAE didn't develop colourful fins until it was much older.

My SAE's did not have the stripe going all the way to the fork when they are frys either. By about 1" to 1.5", the stripe had colored in the way it is supposed to be.

Interesting. Makes it hardder to pick young specimens at the fish store.

The False SAE has a sucker mouth, which makes it quite distinct from the SAE.

I think you mean the CAE has a sucker mouth. I have a False SAE and it is almost idnetical to the True SAE in appearance. The mouth is the same.

The CAE most certainly has the sucker mouth.

The link I posted up top says the False SAE has a "Sucker mouth when at rest." I don't know what that means exactly, but there is a sucker mouth. The Flying Fox has no sucker mouth, but it has two pairs of whiskers, not just the one.
