I was thinking about setting up a 10g freshwater tank with a sand bottom. Any advice on the type of sand I should use? And what kind of filter an bubbler I should use? I was thinking about putting in a betta, what other fish would go with the betta?

Pool filter sand will do the job. Its fairly inexpensive. Or go into your local LFS and check what they have. Just remember, to rinse the sand many times. As far as bettas and tank mates go, it all depends on the temperament of the betta.

In my experience with bettas I would go with a smaller schooling fish. Something like some cardinal tetras, danios or even some guppies depending on your bettas temper. Every fish is different.

I would do black Tahitian Moon Sand it looks great and can be expensive but for a ten gallon it shouldn't cost more than $10.
