Which do you prefer in the bottom of your tank and why?
Both of mine have round river-type rocks in them now and was thinking of changing to something else.

I use pool filter sand or eco complete for my tanks which is kinda like small black gravel.

I have gravel in my 21 g--I like being able to vacuum up the non-planted parts without taking the substrate up, too, and the malaysian trumpets really blend in.

I have the smallest black gravel in my other, and I'm not so sure I like it yet: it does get filtered up, and I suspect it isn't that much softer on diggers anyways. I've not added cories or diggers to that tank now that I have my doubts. My shellies don't really dig.

I had gravel and now I have sand and I love it.

Just started a new tank... tired doing in on the cheap (if you can call spending $200+ on a 10gal cheap).

I did sand because I a bag of playsand on hand. To add a little more character, I decided to add some smooth river stone. It does great at hiding that black cheap air stone.
