Sand sump

Hi, I am about to add sand to my new tank and was was going to run a fluval 206 external filter. I was just searching the net for sand and came a across a sand sump/filter. Can someone explain what these do and how they are used as there does not seem to be any instruction information that I can find online. I understand the filtration part it's the sump part I am bit confused about as this sits in the tank.

A sump doesn't sit in the tank. Do you have a link on what you've been reading to give me a better understanding of what your trying to do?

They are used more for saltwater aquariums. They are good filters.

Yes
The sand works like bio balls or ceramic rings.

Ok so I can use my fluval as well

Yes with the combo of both running imo I would just run sponges or filter floss in the fluval
