That sounds like a good idea, give him platy fry. If the platy fry are anything like molly fry they will be swimming a few seconds after they are born. You'll probably want to wait a week or two after they are born before moving them to school.

we may go look for equipment this weekend. It came with filter, lid and lights, but it all needs cleaning. ANy tips on how to clean it and some good equipment choices would be appreciated.

I forgot to mention, if you do go with some baby fish you may need to cover the filter intake in the tank with a sponge so that the current isn't too strong for them.

What kind of equipment do you plan to get?
