science fair project on lighting

hi, i am doing science fair project on does lighting effect freshwater fish behavior. i read that if the lighting is not above the tank the fish will swim sideways or at a different angle. does anyone has seen that or know of a fish that would be good to test it?

How big is the tank?

I'm doing 1 test in my 35gallon tank but it has blood parots in it. They will eat small fish.
I am allso doing anouther test in a 2.5 gallon tank it has nothing in it right now.

For the 2.5 I would stick with a betta. The 35 is overcrowded.
