I just got this handy little device sent from the UK. It was a tad pricey for what it is, but I am very pleased with it. You get two, a heavy metal spiral that you twist your desired fruit or vegetable onto and it weighs it down for your good to feast on.

I've tried "pinning" slices to the substrate with toothpicks but it floats to the top more often than not.

I'm pretty happy with this little doohickey.

I use a flat rock and a rubber band to keep my cuke slices down on the bottom.
