Sex of angelfish

Whenever i purchased my 2 angelfish the person said that you cant tell if they are male or female until they are more mature. Is this true. If not how can i tell?

It is true. The only sure way is to see their breeding tubes. The male's will be pointed the female's blunt and much thicker to allow eggs to pass through. In my experience the guidelines with regard to slope of the lower body don't hold up in practice.
