Ok. What's the deal?

I've been asking manufacturers of test kits and dechlorinators about the expiration dates of their products. (Just of the ones I have, this is no large scale operation :D)

Mostly I heard back that the shelf life of their product is x years (usually somewhere between 3 and 5).

However one company told me that the shelf life of their dechlorinator is 3 years, but once you open it, the product is good only for one year.

Another company told me that their dechlorinator doesn't expire!

I don't know how it's possible for a product to not degrade...

So what gives? Should I be safe and toss any unused dechlorinator or test kit after a year?

I don't know how long my test kit lasts after opening. I guess I wasn't specific enough when I asked - I only asked for expiration date. I've heard from the general populace that you should toss em after a year. But who knows?

I've never asked, but based on the answers you got I might toss mine after a year and not worry any more than that.
