Cherry Shrimp are the easiest to start out with. Ghost Shrimp very rarely breed in fresh water. Their babies are much harder to raise.

They need live plants. And a cycled stable tank. Once they are established they are very hardy for Shrimp.

You don't have to use a sponge filter. I put a sponge over the intake of my HOB filter. Works fine.

10g
2 screw in CFL lights
Sand
HOB filter
Lots of Plants
Deeply buried root tabs
I use liquid plant food 1x weekly
PWC 1x weekly

If you want a straight breeding tank you can use Moss Balls or grow Moss on rocks or DWood. So the Shrimp are easier to see/catch. And skip the other plants.

I started with 2 Otos and MTS (snails) I added 20 RCS. It's MUCH cheaper to buy from hobbyists here or on The Planted Tank.

My colony is maybe 60? RCS and 4 SS grade CRS (much more sensitive !!!)

Ok so is it like 10 shrimp per gallon?

Yea RCS is red cherry shrimp! And no its not that important to leave room for the fry, but u dont want things to be too crammed in there or els they will be stressed and die.
