heya people,

im looking at setting a tank up for the missus and the two fish she most enjoys are neon tetras and siamese fighters (betta splenden)

in a 26ltr (5.7gallon) tank, providing its well mantained, gonna have a decent filter air pump, cleaned daily, and water changes nice and often, will a few neons and a siamese fighter be ok together????

im looking to put a fighter in my larger tank with some tetra and guppies and from the research ive done it shouldnt be a problem in a larger size.

thanks in advance :)

Tetras are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of about 5 or more in a minimum 10g tank. So unfortunately, all you can really keep is just the Betta with a snail or some ghost shrimp :/

I agree with goodeyesniper. A 5g aquarium is not suitable for neon tetras, which need a school of 6 or more IMO and 10g minimum tank size. You could keep some small snails or shrimp with a betta in the 5g depending on how aggressive he is.

A betta ('Siamese fighter'), shrimp and snails are really the only suitable inhabitants for such a small tank. Neon tetras or guppies or anything else that needs to school (with some very, very few nano-fish exceptions - but they can be expensive and hard to find due to depleting wild stocks) will not do well.
