how do you tell the difference between a male and female silver hatchet? i have 4 of them now, and two have a darker stripe and a more elongated mouth.

This fish is one that is impossible to sex. I don't think they've been bred in captivity.

I have 7 of them which I acquired recently after my school of marble hatchets suffered from a serious bout of fin rot. So sad, but these silver ones make a great school.

Sorry, I can't help with how to sex them though. .

Hatchets have never been successfully spawned in an aquarium. Just to keep them alive for any length of time is an accomplishment. They do best with very soft, acidic water, like neons prefer.
