I've been having troubles Siphoning my pool filter sand substrate. I feel my normal Siphon doesn't create a powerful enough suction to clean the bottom of the tank effectively. The siphon I use is the Python Pro Clean Extra Large. I had this idea and was wondering if anyone has tried this out.

Connect the end of Siphon tube to the intake of powerhead then connect another tube to the outtake of the powerhead which will lead to a bucket.

Has anyone tried this?

My only concern if i suck something too large like a piece of Driftwood and it will clog/break the powerhead impeller.

Is this a bad idea? Can I do this however add a filter sock prior to the water entering the powerhead?

yes i have done this . i use it for quick water changes. as u said just watch close to see what goes up the tube. they make a cover for the ends of them which is what i have. its a faster way and uses less house water for draining tanks
