Size for malawi tank?

What is the smallest size for a Malawi tank? My brother wants to change his tank (he finally agreed on it) his stock right now is : 3 silver dollar
Kenyi, and 2 giant danios. He wants Malawi tank but I have a 55G but he has 20G high. He said he will get rid of all other fish but kenyi. I took his barbs though. Will this work if not what will?

most malawi cichlids are not fit for a 20H unfortunately he could do some apistos or something in there

nice. projects are always good, is he set on cichlids? im assuming he had a community tank before but isnt satisfied with it

He really likes the cichlids and their colors. Since I have them he thought it would be good. He isn't thrilled with community fish. I have one but he doesn't love them but is more into cichlids .
