I'm still new to this hobby and recently got a good lesson in the importance of having a quarantine tank. I have a 55 gallon FW tank and have been researching setting up a quarantine tank. I'm not really interested in maintaining a quarantine tank so I'd like to be able to set one up quickly when necessary and then take it down when not needed.

I am considering using a "subcurrent surface skimming internal filter" for this purpose.

I have a canister filter in the 55 gallon and I'd like to be able to use the above skimmer/filter in the 55 and then move it to a 20 gallon quarantine tank when necessary, then move it back to the 55 when done.

I know a sponge filter would also work but I'd need an additional pump and they don't look that great. The skimmer filter seems like a really clean (unobtrusive) install and would potentially have the added benefit of cleaning off the occasional oil slick I get.

What do you guys think?
