To be honest assassins only work while the pond snails are still small and few of them. I had 8 assassins in my tank and they barely made a dent but mine was over run. They only eat 1 snail a day and only ones that are smaller than themselves. Cheap first option to give a go though

I got 2 assassin snails and they were so effective I now have to feed them. They haven't touched my nerite though - too big. I suspect you're apple snails will also be too big.

I've seen one assassin snail of mine take out 5-6 pest snails in a single meal..... plus, very sadly, he ate a mystery snail, too. Quite the appetite on this guy.
