If I were to boil my DW now (after being in the tank about a year) i'm sure it would still turn blood red. IME boiling is a great help but after a while it creates almost a false positive. I'll usually boil the DW for about 20min at a time, change the water, and repeat for about 5-6 hours then i'll just let the wood soak for a few days, changing the water in the morning and in evening with boiling water. After a few days of soaking i haven't ever had any problems.

FYI i'm using Mopani and Malaysian DW.

Never done the dishwasher trick...something to try next time around.

I have mopani drift wood. I boiled it for 30min and soaked it for an hour in cool water. Put it in my tank and it did fine for the first day my water had a very slight tea look to it but not bad and the next day it was fine. If u have real drift wood u shouldn't need to do to much soaking and boiling in my experience. U can have drift wood in ur tank for years and take it out and boil it and ur still gonna come out with stained water.
