Help!!!!

:confused:I HAVE 2 TIGER BARBS ALMOST 4 MONTHS. THEY WERE CRAZY UNTIL 3 OR SO DAYS AGO, THEN 1 OF THEM STaRTED ACTING WEIRD. IT SITS IT A ROCK WHOLE BY ITSELF MOVES ITS FINS REAL FAST BUT DOESNT GO ANYWHERE. ITS ALL BLOATED LOOKING AND APPEARS TO BE BREATHING HARD. ITS ALSO BEEN DOIN THiS UPSIDE DOWN THING ....WHATS WRONG W/MY FISHY?

What are your water parameters, as in ammo, nitrite, and nitrate readings? Sounds like either a parasite of some sort, or the fish is bloated. I feed my fish peas every now and then to help combat bloating, something I learned from a member here.

Might want to make sure the caps lock key is off next time too, it makes you look as if you are yelling. :)

Welcome to AA! Without more information I can't tell you if she is pregnant or sick. What size tank, what are your exact water parameters? How often are you doing water changes and how much each time? How long has the tank been set up? Can you get a picture?

Answer these Qs to ensure we have as much information as possible about your ailing fish and its environment:

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?

BTW~Your fish is not pregnant, tiger barbs lay eggs :D

its a tiger barb (orange w/ black stripes) i have had them for almost 4 months a pair. i also have 5 angle fish 2 nickle size 2 half dollar size 1 quarter size. i also have a pecostimus about 2in long. and a lil crabby between nickle & quarter size. i have a 10 gal tank aqueon filteration its a medium sz filter thats all i know about the filter. i feed them tropical fish flakes, sometimes freeze dried blood worms, occassional 1/2 oz. tube effects worms. i clean the tank 1x monthly all water clean rocks & scenery. i have 2 plants small sz. the tiger barb who is being weird is fat scales look different and fuzzy looking things on the bottom near fin. being lathargic moving fins and mouth rapidly resting against plants & lava rock. my nitrates & nitrites are "safe" on the tester strips, its about 78-80 degrees. i have had my tank a lil over 4 months about a week b4 i got my fish theyre all tropical.

nitites & nitrates are all "safe" on the test strip. its also developrd fuzzy lookin stuff on the bottom n the scales look different 2 me too.

First I thought Dropsy, Now i'm not sure. Could it be a combination?

What temperature is your tank at? Any other tankmates seem affected by this?

What do you mean by "This upside down thing"?

Is it's belly up or tail up?

IMO get rid of the Test Strips they are terribly inaccurate. I recommend using API Master Test Kit which uses drops instead. And try to post you're exact measurements instead of just saying they are safe.

Threads merged as they are on the same topic.
By pregnant I meant egg bound, sorry. Also test strips as mentioned are inaccurate. If you could get a picture it would help a lot.

i would guess bladder disease also if you have room for it I would consider buying three more tiger barbs as they tend to thrive better in schools of 5 or more just a thought

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this tank somewhat over-stocked for a 10g? Surely that's not going to help matters with regard to the water parameters...
