Im soon getting a 30 gallon tank what would be a nice colorful freshwater set up?

A dwarf or honey gourami, 8 cardinal tetras, 6 lemon tetras, and 6 cory cats for the bottom. You might even be able to do 6 marble hatchetfish or a pair of rams.

You could do

8 Harlequin Rasboras
6 Rummy Nose Tetras
1 Honey or Sparkling Gourami
6 Cory Cats like Panda, Julii, Peppered, etc, or do 12 Pygmy Cory Cats
1-2 Bolivian Rams

IMO I personally prefer angelfish, but it's only a 30 gallon so you may not have a room for a lot of other fish in your community.

I also like mollies, tetras and gouramis.

But like scottyhorse said, it depends upon your tank size and what type of water you have (I.e brackish, etc.).

Do you plan on planting it?

Yeah no elephant nose.

But a basic stocking plan is
4-6x small bottom schooling fish(dwarf chain loaches, Cory catfish, or kihlo loaches)
6x schooling fish(cardinal tetra, rumynose tetra, zebra danio, or many others
8x other schoolers(again, lots of choices
2x centerpiece fish(a pair of rams, apostle, or Kribs

A pair of Kribs would be too aggressive once they paired and began spawning. Apisto's IMO do better in a species tank. Sparkling gourami's also do better in a species tank because they are small, shy, and can easily be outcompeted for food.
