So I had cichlids in my 20 gallon long tank but I got a 55 gal for my b-day so they were moved in there, and I've been wondering how many fish I can put int 20 gal. I was already told that I should really only put 1 goldfish in there but how many Molly, platy, guppy or tetras could I possibly put in there with a common pleco? Any advice is much apreciated thanks

In terms of tetras, you can easily get a dozen or so. If you do neon tetras, easily close to 20 as they have small bio-loads. However, a 20gal is too small for a common pleco in the long run ... they can get over a foot+ in size.

I'm not as familiar with the others so I'll leave that to those with more experience with mollies, guppies, etc.

I would say you could do about
4 guppies (either all male or 3 female one male, but they reproduce rapidly)
4 platys or 3 mollies ( 2 female 1 male)
6 neon tetras
