My local [big box] fish store has an extremely limited selection of fish. It's mostly tetras, guppies, mollies, and tiger barbs. Or goldfish...

I want an interesting addition to my 46gal bow front but I don't live near any specialty fish stores. Where would be a good reliable place to get a new addition. I currently have 2 glo tetras, 2 black skirt tetras, a school of about 15 or so glolites and neons, 6 rasboras, 2 male guppies, and 3 albino Cory cats.

Suggestions? I want something of a statement fish for this big empty tank lol

I've ordered fish on aquabid several times and have never been disappointed.

Angelfish are cool but they are best kept in small groups. Also, they would snack on your small fish.

Bolivian rams are great. They are very spunky. You could also look at other dwarf cichlids for some personality.

I keep a school of glass catfish. Another cool mid-water swimming catfish is the debauwi catfish. It looks like an iridescent shark but stays small.

Not for sure which big box store you have but my local Petco will special order anything I want (I ordered my Praecox Rainbows from them). You might try asking the fish specialist at your store if they can special order.

I have both a petsmart and a petco but I didn't know they would special order. I'll have to look into that. Is it any more expensive to special order that way? I'll have to look into aquabid.

Can I house cichlids with my other community fish?

Thanks for the input!

I paid the same per fish as online but I did not have to pay shipping which is a huge savings. They order them on the same day they order their regular stock and I picked them up as soon as they unboxed them. They never even touched their tanks. Your store might be different though.

You might also fill out your schools of fish you already have if you have room. I have 14 Neons in my 55g. In a larger group they look great.

Glowlights are underrated. A large group with a black background and live plants is impressive.

I have a group of Densonii Barbs as my larger fish, but they are sensitive and need certain conditions.

I don't have special lights haha. They are called glolite tetras. They look like neons but instead of the bright red and blue they have an orange-ish red stripe instead.

I don't have any pictures of mine but this is what they look like :]

I'm going to fill out my schools once I get my new filter put in, but wanted a statement fish that my little fish will look nice with but not get killed by lol and my parameters fluctuate to much for extremely sensitive fish so I may be stuck with tetras, barbs, and guppies :p

I forgot, but I did have Petco special order some rummynose tetras for me, and they called me when they came in.

Check out aquabid. There is a seller named Lotsoffish who sells interesting packages of fish, many times with free shipping.

The way we spell the name is
Glowlight Tetra aka
Hemigrammus erythrozonus

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemigrammus_erythrozonus

GloFish Tetras are Skirt Tetras with the modified gene.

I've had Glowlights off and on for years. Used to sell them. Sorry for any confusion.

Sorry about the misnomer. I have a habit of mixing them up because I have both lol. I'll look at the gourami as well. I was looking into a discus but where it's a cichlid family I didn't know if it would be a good for for my neons or not. I know they get big, like 6" big. Any experience with them?

Discus have specials needs: high temperature, frequent water changes, etc. You really have to be dedicated to keep them healthy.

Yeah, I'm busy with work and school so maybe a discus isn't a good idea. I like easy fish that I don't have tk monitor 24/7 to make sure they aren't gonna die. But I also want something that is going to look "Wow! Check out that fish!"

No its not a small store. One is a petsmart and the other petco. They have pretty much run every respectable local small store out of business. I think there is one more I could try but I'm pretty sure pet paradise is a chain store too
