my friend just got a tank for his birthday. he doesnt know if its a20 high or a 15. im helping him stock and cycle it. he wants swordtails for sure(i know they can fit in a 20,not sure about a 15),i reccomended a species of dwarf cichlid if its a 20(either a bolivian ram or a kribensis). i suggested a betta and a small school of tetras for the 15(assuming it cant hold swordtails). any other suggestions?

Endlers are fun...they breed and are friendly
I wouldn't do swords in a 20H. They get pretty darn big and I think they need a tank about 30" long or so. Not to mention livebearers that size have a pretty significant bio-load. No dwarf cichlid if it's a 15, but I think one works OK in a 20. Betta w/ dwarf cichlids are risky, so I wouldn't recommend it, for the beginner aquarist especially. Platties, endlers, neon/cardinal/ember tetras, pygmy cories, kuhli loaches, hovering zebra loaches, dwarf gourami, sparkling gourami, licorice gourami, dwarf pencilfish, pork shop rasbora, harlequin rasbora, celestial pearl danios, danio erythromicron, scarlet badis, and oto cats would all be good choices.
