Stocking a 55 gallon tank

I have a 55 gallon tank. It has one angel and one barb. It just got through its cycle. I would like some bigger fish but the more you read about compatability the more your head spins. Can any one tell me if there are chilids that are compatable with these. I am new to this. Thanks for the help.
