recently started a 55 gallon. I have:
five danios
six guppies
six tiger barbs (do fine, havent done any fin niping)
one clown pleco.

Now my girlfriend wants to put a gold fish in there, just because she thinks they are cute. In doing research ( as i am new to the hobby) i have found that gold fish just make a lot of waiste and need to be in colder water. Any opinions on having one gold fish in my tank? thanks

I'm assuming it is a fancy goldfish? Besides adding a larger bioload, perhaps needing a slightly different diet and preferring cooler temps than your tropical fish ... adding a slow swimming fancy goldfish with those large fins is inviting your TigerBarbs to demonstrate why they're notorious fin nippers.
