Hi there I may need to empty my tank for a few months. Due to some re decorating. What should I do? I hear the silicone can dry out and fail once it is really filled. How should I avoid this.

No it won't IME if you take care of a few things. Rinse it out so there's nothing growing or turning into a nasty mess while it's empty. Don't store it in direct sunlight or near a heater vent/source and don't store it outside in the weather (hot/cold). Keep it covered, in a cooler area (not cold) and it should be fine. I'd suggest when you do set it back up, fill it in an area that a leak won't harm anything and let it set for a week or so just to be sure.
