strange creature in my tank!!

I turned out the lights to watch my fish eating and i thought i saw a small fish swimmin to the top of my tank i had a closer look and it looks like a bug of sum sort it went to the bottom of the tank then darted when a zebra loach came near it it is about 6mm long iv only ever kept fish in this tank apart from snails which have been eaten. Any ideas???

A water beetle maybe? An egg could have come in on a plant or something.

Tough call without pictures. Many a times have I been surprised to find fry in my tanks. Make sure that's not what you're seeing. The "darting" motion is indicative of that...

I havnt put any plants in for 3 months think it must have been a stowaway with the last fish i bought

This thing definitly got legs and its a quick swimmer

Need pics otherwise we can't really help you haha. If it has legs then it's almost certainly an insect of some kind.
