Styrofoam?

I'm a newbie to this forum and have a question...I just read in my copy of Cichlid Monthly that you should/or can use styrofoam glued to the bottom of aquariums to relieve stress points from rocks...Can I use the blue foam that's commonly used in home construction? If not, where do I get the correct foam?
I'm in the process of setting up a 90 gallon tank for my Tropheus Duboisi...My other tanks are 55,29 and 10 gallon...I use undegravel filters which help stretch out the rock load and the use of foam never occured to me...
I've had a 55 gallon tank burst in the past (caused by a loose rock and a large pleco) and want to take every precaution with the new 90...

Thanks, The use of the eggcrate mimics the use of a good quality undergravel filter which I already use...But it's still a hard material, unlike what the foam would be...

The hardness doesn't really matter as it should help spread the load over a greater surface area, which I'm pretty sure is what you are looking to do.

Should everyone use something below the substrate? this is the first i've heard or read about this idea. Should one be worried about the glass breaking on the bottom? Or is it more if you keep fish that like to dig?

We have had our digging cichlids in with tons of lace rock for a year. Last month, I put in the egg crate and the whole tank just looks better! The rock isn't submerged under mounds of gravel and I don't have to worry about the fish hurting themselves.
