Sun loach (Botia Eos) questions.
Who here has one of these?
Loaches.com had very limited information and aquariacentral.com lists it as an aggressive loach. I have 2 skunk loaches (petsmart has been selling the babies for $1.49 each) and decided they need a third member to their group to spread out the aggression (the smaller one constantly chases the slightly larger orange finned one). At petsmart I wanted to get a new addition of similar size to the two I have already but since all of the loaches were so active I didn't really pay attention closely enough to worry about getting the correct type of loach. When I had it in the bag I noticed that it did not really exhibit a dark stripe as they normally do but I attributed this to stress...(the color, general shape and stripe around the base of the caudal fin matched). Well I get it home and start acclimating it to my [acronym:7b7a8b0e8b="quarantine or quart depending on context"]QT[/acronym:7b7a8b0e8b] and I notice that it didn't look quite right. That is when I realized that it was a different species and found it to be a Sun Loach and not a Skunk Loach. Are Sun loaches said to be aggressive because they were kept singly? Or are these one of the few solitary loaches? It definitely is quicker to hide then the skunks (even going so far as to dig under the fake plastic plants to hide since I don't have any caves in the [acronym:7b7a8b0e8b="quarantine or quart depending on context"]QT[/acronym:7b7a8b0e8b]), but I bought two of the skunks at the same time. |
