Omg I did not think of this before I'm so stupid...

Kicks self...

I have pictures of what my tank is standing on... It is a 20 Gallon tank

does this look like enough support? I read glass aquariums really just need support on the corners... If its not ima drain it and find another place...

Or is there a way to make it sturdy...? Its been full of water on that place for over a week now though...

I just figured since its only 20 gallons itd be okay... o.o

freaking out @.@

a tiny bit not really...

my desk used to hold a computer and printer and stuff... does that weight 20 pounds o.o I was wondering if I can put something under the desk for additional support....

Hard to tell from your pics, but if we do the math:

water is 8.345 lbs/gallon x 20 is approx 167 lbs. add some rock and substrate 7-10lbs + the weight of the tank 10 lbs ( roughly )= 187 lbs. ( this is probably a little high but lets add a safety margin in our numbers)

Your computer and printer probably weighed 40 lbs or so. ( not knowing if you had a server or a small desktop.) (again, being generous with the numbers to add safety )

You are putting 187# on an area that you had 40# of weight

Your strongest part of the desk will be between the two separate units.

Compressive weight should not be a problem, lateral movement will be your weakest area. If the desk cannot move side to side ( other than a little jiggling ) you'll probably be fine.

You need to weight the risk vs reward. If the desk cracks you'll know it before the tank hits the floor, there will be deflection in the materials.

Sorry to be vague, but the pics do not tell much of the needed info.

hope this helps

Not sure on the soundness of that, but it couldn't hurt to put up a few 4x4s under there to help keep it up. To me, if nothing else, I'd do it for peace of mind.

I put the stress bar there under a corner... though maybe i should put it where the middle of the tank would be....

thanks for the reply^^

I think it should be fine^^:thanks:

I put a stress bar underneath the corner of where the tank would be though it might be better where the middle of the tank is?
I suppose it would be best where most of the weight is resting on... So yes under the tank would be a desirable location.

directly under the tank, without a doubt.

Imagine a full sized male 6'2'' standing on your desk.

If the wood settles down around that pressure point (bar) than it will pop the bottom of that tank like a water balloon. You'd want to have a 10"×10" board between the top of pole and bottom of desk..

So I put the bar where the middle of the tank is.... I could take better pictures of sides and underneath...

the desk is a corner one...

does this help at all?

the first pic here shows the leg all the way in the back its more in the mddle of the top... goes past cross bar...

if you need more clarification lmk^^

i know this is all opinion, i just want to not have to buy a stand.... If i move it another place itd be in front of my window...
