Switching filters?

I want to switch my Whisper filter to a better Fluval filter, but i'm concerned about shocking the environment and my fish.

Advice on how to get this done?
I was thinking about putting the new filter in with the old one and letting it run for a while concurrently, but i'd have to take my lid off to do that, and i need the lid on to retain humidity for my snail eggs right now.

Why not use both, the more than better. You could add ypur new one for afew months then remove your old filter and then keep on eye on your parameters.

I put my filter media from old filter into my new filter system I just switched I fluval this week
