I recently had my F8 get sick and pass very unexpectedly(all parameters are good, no idea what happened). I think I am going to change his former tank back to freshwater. He was in lower salinity the SG was 1.003-1.006. Can I just get rid of the water and put fresh in? or do I need to clean it a special way, it has sand for substrate also. Will it stay cycled or will the bacteria die when I switch to fresh. Just want to know what I should do before I can put something else in there.

Thanks in advance

It should be fine, just switch back to fresh, I don't think the bacteria thing is an issue unless its closer towards marine conditions, but you could just test periodically to make sure you don't have a minicycle.
